I've purchased I believe 29 of these units for my employer, and set them up.So I've got some experience with them.Here is the good and the bad:
TLDR Summary:Great value.Glitch that makes it run down overnight when asleep.(turn volume to zero and shut down to help with this).Real Windows 8.Great little tablet.Don't expect to take extensive notes on this without a keyboard / mouse.Small, useful, nice.Wish it had more storage, but, the microSD slot helps with that.I've listed a number of helpful accessories below.
Bad: 1)Battery life in standby is short.This is a known issue that is well documented on the internet.Generally turning the tablet completely off (full shutdown vs. the sleep button) helps, and turning the volume completely down to zero helps.If you don't do this, it will run down overnight even when asleep.I've not found a proper driver fix, but I've also not spent hours looking for one.
2) There is only one external USB port.This means the same USB port that charges the device, is also used for accessories.And you can not charge the tablet and use an OTG accessory at the same time.Which means you can't leave it running all the time plugged in, and use some kind of accessory device.I've found one device (and only one) that allows for charging and accessories.It's specialized to 'trick' the unit into working.You can find it on amazon here:http://amzn.com/B00OVDE0GCBut it's large, costs as much as the tablet, and is only really useful for a desktop dual purpose application.
3)Relatively high failure rate.Out of 29 tablets, I've had 2 DOA from the factory.They both would turn on, and the graphics would glitch out.Not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind.The good news is that the HP support was exceptional (yes, you read that right), they were actually very helpful, followed up, and made sure everything was taken care of.So that's actually very refreshing and positive.
4) The cameras are functional, but unimpressive.
5) For reasons known only to HP they used UEFI BIOS and Windows 8 32-bit... not 64-bit.Which means that recovery media such as what Acronis might make, won't work on the tablet.This makes cloning and deploying a large number of them a hassle.
The Good: 1) They run full Windows 8.1.Not Windows RT, Not Embedded, Not Android, BUT FULL REALLY REAL WINDOWS 8.1.Meaning any normal application that runs on your laptop, will run on this tablet.Cool.(too bad it's not win 64... but I guess we can't have everything)
2) The price, I don't know how they make any money.Bang for the buck, is exceptional.
3) It's starts up and shuts down very quickly.And considering it only has 2GB of RAM, is actually fairly peppy.Just keep in mind it's a sub $99 tablet, with an ATOM CPU... and you won't be unhappy.
4) WiFi works fine, and is fast.Other accessories such as a USB to ethernet adapter, also work fine.Just remember that you have to use the small OTG micro USB adapter first in line.The OTG (On The Go) adapter tells the tablet to use the USB port for accessories, instead of charging.
5) Does have a slot for putting in a micro SD card to expand storage, which also works fine.
6) Capacitive touch screen (meaning glass, not the plastic coating), works great, along with multi-touch.

I really wanted to love this tablet except for it's a computer that didn't work out of the box correctly. No problem, just call HP for support. HP says the issue is software related and wants to sell a support plan to remedy. I opened the box 4 hours ago, not interested in buying support already.
I call this a computer because it doesn't realize it's a tablet. Use a windows PC, and think what it would be like without a keyboard and mouse. Now you understand the HP stream 7. Things get really weird in the UI fast.
The touchscreen itself is great and performance is incredible considering the hardware specs. So this is where the "but" comes in. The WiFi dropped 30 seconds after connecting, but the good news is you could just disconnect and reconnect everytime it drops. That helps you limit the time you spend on the web for sure. All sarcasm aside, HP failed on support on a faulty product. You shouldn't be googling issues on you brand new windows tablet with your 2 year old Nexus 7.
It should be noted, I have 3 HP PC's that have been amazing the whole time I've owned them. First time dealing with HP support has certainly tainted the relationship.

I could write a ton about this but it boils down to that this has almost entirely replaced my ideapad Y410p for everyday computer work and play - I'm very impressed. I'm a graphic designer, and 1gb is the bare minimum required ram for InDesign, photoshop, and illustrator cs5, and I have them all installed on here. They all run pretty well for light editing, which is honestly more than I expected from a sub $100 windows tablet with only 1gb ram. It performs just as well (maybe a little better) with windows 10 and I highly suggest updating, though onedrive is worse in windows 10. The best thing with windows 10 is that it takes signifanctly less space (about 6gb). For storage, I highly suggest using a microsd card for files, especially if you plan on installing a lot of apps. I got a 128gb pny one for around $70 (watch for deals). I also bought a cheap Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and hp's case/cover. My whole setup cost under $200, and I'm very happy with how portable it is, and how well it fits my needs for a windows pc for light work and play. So, what is wrong with this thing? Well, don't consider it an iPad competitor. While this may change in the near future with windows universal apps, the tablet apps are still not all there for windows (although the ux of using a non-tablet app on a tablet with windows 10 is better). If you're looking for tablet apps and games, you /might/ be okay on windows, but iOS still has the best and the newest in many categories. It's also not an iPad competitor in the build quality department. It's not terrible, and I've definitely experienced worse, but there are some weird issues. For instance, almost everyone has reported an issue with a weird static interference sound from the headphones whole playing music/video. I can confirm that mine also has this issue. It's not too bad, but it could get annoying. I do watch a lot of YouTube (mytube is a great windows tablet YouTube app) and either I've gotten used to the interference noise or it's become less of a big deal, but it doesn't bother me too much. Another problem that other users have reported that I can confirm but also say I'm not bothered by is uneven light leak from the backlight. It's not noticeable unless the backlight is on high and you're looking at something dark. Overall, this is not an iPad. It's for a totally different set of things, and it actually has replaced my iPad as well as my laptop for almost all my computer use. It's great for taking notes (onenote is great on a device you can hold in one hand and write on like a notebook), light work including high end stuff like the adobe creative suite (well, cs5 and lower) that even the iPad pro can't touch, and it's good for light media consumption - mostly just limited by the screen size and resolution. It's also worth note that the new tablet version of Office does not require a paid subscription on a device this size.

The switch from a tablet to an actual desktop is still a bit confusing to me. Nice tablet for experimental purposes. Not a good option as a daily driver. One could better opt for Amazon tablets if looking at the price range. I really don't like the way windows 8 scales to smaller screens. Most of the task you need to do will be on a desktop not properly scaled to fit a 7 inch touch screen. The touch is a hit or miss. Smaller back buttons make it harder to navigate. Hope Microsoft will come up for a solution to that on the coming 29th. Using only chrome consumes about 75% of the available 1 GB RAM. The windows store at this point of time has not much to offer to the overly increasing desires and expectations of the consumer. Absence of Standard Google apps for Youtube and Gmail further deter an android cell phone user to own such a tablet. Windows email client both one on the tiles and Microsoft outlook are not so well visually comfortable to use on account of the screen size and poor scaling of the font size and entire environment. On the other hand you can see your long awaited childhood dream come true to see a complete windows 8 PC on a barely 9 inch body.I further look into the option of installing other open source os on this tablet.

This product is barely usable. Battery life is mediocre -- it won't last a day on standby and you WILL have to charge it every time you plan on using it. Windows 8 is anything but user-friendly. Windows store has nos interesting apps, and the ones you would want to use (Twitter, Facebook) are filled with bugs and will crash on a regular basis. Hell, even the built-in Pictures Viewer crashes randomly when viewing pictures. Other software, having been developed for computers with larger screens, is hard to use on this tablet because the touch screen isn't precise at all, and the buttons are too small. It has none of the advantage of either a tablet or a computer -- only the inconveniences of both. Get an Android or, worst case scenario, an Apple tablet. But stay away from this at all cost.

Over the years, I have played with the HP TouchPad, Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Asus Transformer, iPad, Surface, and Surface 2. I now own the Surface Pro 3. Yes, I have used a lot of tablets -- Apple iOS, Google Android, and Microsoft Windows 8. I'd like to preface that among all products, the Surface Pro 3 is my favorite for its versatility: tablet for play and consumption, laptop-like for work. Most importantly: it just plain works with the Windows ecosystem (hardware and software).
HP Stream 7 is a surprisingly fluid Windows 8.1-based tablet that comes with a 1 year subscription to Office 365 Personal, a $69 value. More on that later. What makes it surprising is its performance for its price. (Note: I purchased this tablet from the Microsoft Store.)
PROS - Holds easily in the palm of my hand and in the back of my jeans pocket - A quite powerful Windows PC in the pocket of your pants! - Fluid performance of the Windows Store apps, helped by the Quad core processor - Traditional Windows app performance acceptable - Very inexpensive - Includes Office 365 Personal for a year ($70 value). Effectively making the tablet cost just $30! [EDIT 2/18/15: MS currently sells the Stream 7 for $75 - Office 365 Personal - $25 app store credit] - Runs the full Windows 8 OS (not the crippled "RT" version). CONS - At 0.8 lb, it feels heavy. Perhaps I got spoiled by the iPad Mini/Nexus 7/Surface 2, but its heft is noticeable - Speakers are loud enough in a room, but does not produce the best sound quality. What do you expect for a tablet at this price? - Only has 1GB of RAM although it has been able to perform acceptably - Although Miracast display mirroring works, it's not as fluid as the $1500 Surface Pro 3 - microSD card slot is accessible after opening the back cover - Spoiled by the Surface Pro 3, the tablet appears thick - There is no Charge indicator light. So, you have to turn on the tablet and look at the battery icon to see whether it is charging or full. Worse, connect a generic charger that may not provide enough power, and the icon shows that it's charging, but... mouse over the system tray's battery icon, and it shows "Connected, but not charging". In other words, check that your non-HP charger works before you walk away - Only has 5-point multi-touch (Surface Pro 3/iPad do 10-point). With a tablet this size, 5-point works well enough - Typing on the on-screen keyboard was sometimes (not very often) laggy. Maybe I typed too fast. - "Signature Edition" is only available through the Microsoft Store - No GPS

The Office 365 Personal subscription is activated by launching the Office app icon from the Start screen. This takes you to the Office 365 website from where you activate the subscription. I was erroneously expecting a voucher in the box. The activation appears unique -- meaning, you cannot have another person log in to the tablet and try to claim another free subscription. Further, if you already have Office 365 Personal, I believe that the activation will simply extend your existing subscription by a year, but I cannot confirm. [EDIT 2/18/15: I was able to stack multiple Personal subscriptions up to 5 years. Trying to add a 6th year did not work.]
TIPS - I use Google Chrome all the time. However, just like on the Surface Pro 3 Core i7 (top-of-the-line), it does not play well -- it hogs memory and CPU resources! Further, it also does not scroll very smoothly. As such, use Internet Explorer (Store app version) for best performance. The slow performance is a GOOGLE problem, not a problem with the tablet - Treat this tablet like a Surface RT tablet, not a laptop: use the Store apps whenever you can. Consider the Desktop and the ability to run regular Windows software as a bonus. See this tablet as a laptop, and you'll be disappointed due to its small screen - Enter BIOS mode by turning the tablet off. Then push (and keep holding) the Power + Volume down buttons at the same time. Works the same way as the Surface Pro 3 - The Windows Store version of Internet Explorer (IE) has Adobe Flash built in. You can also download Flash and install it for use with your browser of choice: IE, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc. However, IE will give you the best performance since Microsoft optimized IE for Windows 8 tablets
NOTES - The installed Windows OS is 32-bit - Since this tablet can run the full Windows OS, I surmise you could turn this into a full-fledged, basic server to use at home. Usage scenarios I can see: 1) torrent server. 2) Server to connect to via Remote Desktop/Teamviewer/Splashtop, allowing you to check on your files or security camera while you're away. [EDIT 2/18/15: since the tablet runs Windows 8.1 with Bing, you cannot Remote Desktop INTO it from another PC using the built-in Microsoft Remote Desktop client. You can only remote desktop FROM it to another device. Teamviewer/Splashtop/Logmein work fine though.] 3) Server to control your home automation devices. 4) File server to host your files/movies/pictures (by connecting a USB hard drive via a USB OTG cable). - With the upcoming Windows 10 release, Windows Phone and Windows PC/tablets will be merged into a single system. This means that apps written for the phone should also work for the PC/tablet. This will hopefully encourage developers to focus their apps to run on the Windows ecosystem. Meaning: more, better quality apps! I have high hopes.
I purchased this tablet to supplement my Surface Pro 3, HTC One M8 android phone, and my wife's iPad. A tablet so cheap, I can simply lay it around the house for anyone to grab to quickly look things up. At $99 - $69 (I planned to sign up for the Office 365 Personal subscription anyway) = $30, the Stream 7 is extremely affordable [EDIT 2/18/15: MS currently sells the tablet for $75 - Office 365 Personal - $25 app store credit, making it practically free!]. Throw movies onto the tablet and watch them in the car or on the plane. Or, in my case, to launch something on a remote server via Citrix or Remote Desktop, or to move files around between computers (told you, I'm in IT.) I am very pleased with this purchase, and applaud Microsoft for lowering its Windows licensing fees to make inexpensive Windows tablets a possibility.
--------- 12/10/2014 UPDATE WITH STREAM 8: I recently purchased the Stream 8, and although I bought it for $80 more than the Stream 7, I returned the latter. Here's why.
PROS: - Stream 8 is only 1" larger, but it provides a noticeably larger screen. This makes reading easier - A bit thinner than the Stream 7 - Comes with a free, lifetime, 200 MB/month cellular data via T-Mobile HSPA+ ("4G") - Cellular data: no credit card, no contract required - Cellular data allows you to quickly check something when no WiFi is available - Feels a bit lighter than the Stream 7 (although it's actually heavier) - Comes with Office 365 Personal 1 Year subscription too - Runs as smooth as the Stream 7. Both tablets are essentially the same specs
CONS: - A bit pricier than the Stream 7 - Cellular radio can drain battery faster. I keep mine turned off (Settings > Mobile Broadband > Off) until I need to use it
To activate the free, lifetime cellular subscription, go to Settings > WiFi (turn it off). Then tap the "Mobile Broadband" connection. It'll direct you to the T-Mobile page for activation (SIM card is already pre-installed underneath the back cover). Once activated, you may turn back on the WiFi radio.

The price is just about right, it's pretty decent actually for a device with a pretty crisp screen that can be viewed at almost all angles (130 degrees to be exact), so it's good so far.The built-in apps that comes with it, most of them HP apps, are useless, you can find better ones that do the same and more from Play Store, and once found, disable those HP ones in settings.Sound output level is pretty good as well, high enough to fill up a room, but a pair of headphones is highly recommended for anything videos, such as Youtube, movie player, etc.Even music of course.
The available space for installing apps is pretty hefty, there's no need to do any move to SD procedure to free up space.Speed is decent, I threw in Contract Killer Zombies 2 Origin, a real time 3D first person shooter game, and it was running pretty smoothly and quite enjoyable.
The not so good sides of this tablet, are the lack of BT, it's width, and the mediocre battery life (just about 5 hours top, with brightness set to 40 to 50%), but it does get charged up rather quickly though.Now the bad side of it, is the strange phenomenon of the screen's sensitivity.There were times that I was just browsing on the Play Store, or any other app such as Flickr, and the screen would go haywire in terms of responding to my touches, screen would get swiped and buttons be touched almost completely randomly when I was ONLY holding the tablet and not initiating any touches on the screen whatsoever.It's like as if a ghost was touching the screen and messing around !Not sure what it is exactly, but this strange behavior alone is really annoying me a great deal.With this said, I'm hoping that HP is planning to have a firmware upgrade or a fix or something, because when the tablet works, it really is a bargain at the current price.
We purchased this tablet for our 8 yr old grandson.We had purchased several cheaper ones ($50-$75) prior to this purchase, but those were poorly made and either didn't work properly out of the box or stopped working in several days, so had to be returned. THIS ONE is a completely different story!!Right out of the box I noticed a slightly heavier, studier feel to the tablet.It started right up, loaded the Apps very well (as it should) and has been running great ever since (2 months in now).Our grandson is thrilled with it!! Sometimes you just have to pay a little bit more to get something worth having, and this was the case.
I bought this for my mom as a first tablet. The display is nice. It works well. The battery life is shameful. It gets around 4 hours dimly lit, with wifi off. Its not very responsive, and me and my poor dear maw had to press keys over and over again to get things to work. Its so slow. Rotate the screen and then go get a drink, when you come back it might have adjusted. Also I couldn't find bluetooth. I refuse to accept that it just doesn't have it. My mom's old flip phone has bluetooth. I'm going to chock it up to poor design, or my failure to read. Is it really too high of an expectation to expect every mobile device like this, made after 2004,to have bluetooth? I'm not even docking stars for that. I'm docking for how slow and unresponsive and non fun the thing is to use.Yes it works, and if it were a $50 dollar tablet I'd add a star, but I think you can do better for the price.
I purchased this tablet for my 13-yr old grandson.He thought it was wonderful, until 11 months after purchase.He connected it to the charger and smoke began to pour out of the tablet.I took it to a computer repair store near me.They said it was probably the battery, and new batteries are $90 - the price of a new tablet.I am very disappointed in this product.I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Gave it to my mother as a present... The only complaint is that is hard for her to use because of the screen size and the battery last about 5 hours... But overall is an excellent tablet...

I thought great a $99 tablet with a quad core processor. I was willing to overlook certain features and even its low battery life (4.5 hours tops). I mostly wanted it to download and display photos from my DSLR, play some music, read e-books and get on line. The first thing that went wrong was the screen. For a barely used touch screen it is heavily scratched with little rainbow looking damage spots that are permanent. I have an old kindle I use everyday that doesn't show this much wear and tear. Then the USB connection went. The cord has to be positioned just so or it won't charge/download. Tried multiple cables with no better results. Tonight the headphone jack did the same thing. It only plays if the cord has no tension on it. I tried multiple cords with always the same results. Cheap crappy connectors. I've had this 8 months and maybe use it twice a week. I'll probably just use it in the kitchen to put recipes on that way if it falls in the sink who cares. Save your money and don't buy this.
Purchased this product for my son after going thru all those cheaper so called tablets & he said the games look sharp in color & the sound is loud, believe me it's loud without hearing crackling! The only issue I have as an adult would be when you are typing in say a Web address my fingers hit 2 letters at the same time, I don't have as ppl would say sausage fingers, I believe this would happen to any adult, it maybe something I need to fix on my part but I just wanted to put that out there though. Still rating at 5 because it made my son happy!!
This is a great tablet.I most definitelygot my money's worth with this tablet!I can easilyand seamlessly have several applications open and running at once.It plays games flawlessly; anything from candy crush to The Wolf Among us, it even runs emulators awesomely. The screen resolutionis very crisp and clear.The only bad is the cameras which I knew going into purchasing this they aren't the best and the speaker on the tablet itself is a bit tiny sounding tho when you have headphones in its just fine.Overall for the money this tablet is great!

There aren't many reviews on this tablet so I figured I would write one.
When buying this tablet you need to know what you're getting. This isn't a power house. It's meant for pretty standard use and it's not going to do anything amazing. It is a great tablet for the price tho and it gets the job done.
What I like :
- The Price. It's very affordable and can fit into most budgets.
- The screen is pretty decent for a device that only costs $150.
- it's light and portable and doesn't feel like a burden to carry around from place to place.
- It has a micro SD slot and it will definitely help with storage.
What I don't like :
- The camera is just horrific. But then again, what do you expect from a tablet at this price?
- There's some lag, it's not to bad but it's noticeable.
- You have to pry off a panel on the back to get to the micro SD slot and it will probably break over time.
The HP Android tablet has all the dreamy features one can imagine in a mobile interface. Android apps, many free, are amazing, and Kindle can be installed also. Just love the big 8" screen too for reading, viewing, and browsing. One thing I did notice, however, is that some wallpaper images that are displayed in entirety on a 7" display do actually get shaved horizontally on the 8" display due to its squarer proportions vs. a 7" display. A nice winter scene with a cabin on the leftmost portion of the image had the cabin hidden on the 8" display. Not much that can be done for that change of proportion, except maybe a 'fill screen' feature. Doesn't seem to happen for all wallpapers, so it must be a configuration set up by the wallpaper application developer. The display is noticeably brighter than the 7" version of the HP tablet. Color contrast is deeper and slightly richer on the 7" version of the tablet also. But the much wider display obviously provides a broader view of any given image on-screen and is easier to navigate for those with large hands. Battery life is substantial especially considering the size of the display. Really love HP tablet design overall. What's not to love about the technical design? Durable, easy to use, spill tolerant, and state of the art cosmetic appeal throughout. Eye-catching & fun, great for entertainment and educational value, too. Wonderful product. Truly wonderful!

I think the 8 inch is the perfect size tablet for me and my require uses.Some people say this is "a basic tablet."Well, that's what I wanted a basic tablet. But I consider this to be a moderately sophisticated tablet. It is beautiful screen. Some may mention the battery life. I never concern myself about a cab with battery life – for any tablet do you need an Extertal battery charger. I won't go into all the details of the tablet, description would tell you that. What I would say is, I love this tablet and I recommend it's purchase. Sometime I think tablet that a tablet is tablet, not a laptop or a desktop computer. In my opinion, if you want to functionality of a laptop or a desktop then that's what you purchase. But to each his own I love the tablet. I have HP seven and now the HP 8 inch. I love 8 inch it's the perfect screen size for my viewing taste. I'm sure you would not be disappointed if you purchase this tablet.
